Pia Margriet Seinen passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama, with her daughter at her side. She was 82.
Margriet was born in De Krim, the Netherlands, and came to North America as a child, eventually finding her truest home on a mountainside near Garberville in Northern California. There she built her own home with her own hands, cultivated food, raised chickens, danced, and painted.
She began painting on silk in 1982 and never stopped. Her luminous works — mermaids and mandalas, flowers and forests, the wild creatures she loved — reflected a woman who saw the world as endlessly beautiful and worth celebrating. Two of her paintings were published in The Best of Silk Painting in 1994. Her work graced galleries across North America and hung in homes throughout Northern California. For decades she was a beloved presence at art fairs throughout Southern Humboldt, and a pivotal member of the Southern Humboldt Art Gallery.
She taught silk painting and mandala workshops with patience, warmth, and deep belief in the creative spirit of others. Teaching brought her great joy.
Margriet lived with creativity, courage, and quiet self-reliance. She left behind a legacy of beauty that continues through her family and her art.
A memorial will be held in June 2026 at Benbow Park, where her daughter Alicia will bring her ashes home to the land she loved.
Her art lives on.
I am Alicia, Margriet's daughter, and I am honored to carry her work forward. Every piece in this boutique began as a painting by her hand — a celebration of life, color, and the natural world. When you bring one home, you carry a piece of her with you.
Thank you for being here.

as the lotus does, ensures the most beautiful revivals.”
